  • Enter the command 'open $TMDIR' without quotes and then press Enter.
  • Locate the Temporary Items folder in the TMP folder and open it. Right-click the Word document to be recovered and click 'Open With.'
  • Choose Microsoft Word. Then, use the 'Save As' option to save the document to a different folder on your Mac computer.
  • Navigate to the Finder application on your Mac and click Go Go to Folder.
  • Enter the command '~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Word/Data/Library/Preferences/AutoRecovery' without quotes and then click Go.
  • Double-click the AutoRecovery folder to open it. Choose the Word document by locating files beginning with the word string 'AutoRecovery save of,' and open them.
  • Go to the File menu and click the Save As option. Enter a new name for the Word document, and choose a destination folder.
  • If these recovery steps do not help you find the lost Word document, you will need to use a data recovery application to recover it.

How to Recover Lost Word Document

  • Go to the File tab on the MS Word application and then click Manage Document.

How to Recover Microsoft Word Documents

  • You can try the Recover previous version feature in Windows to recover the Word document.
  • Go to the folder where the document is located. Right-click it and choose-->Properties-->Previous Versions tab.
  • If there are older versions of the document, they will be displayed, and you can go to their location to recover them.
  • If you use OneDrive to backup your Word documents, go to the OneDrive website. Enter your Microsoft account credentials and locate the document to be recovered. Right-click the Word document and choose Version history. Choose the version to be recovered and click Restore to recover it.
  • You can also recover the lost Word document from the temp folder. Go to the root directory Users App Data Local Microsoft Office Unsaved Files.

  • Locate the document by searching for the document name. It should have the .tmp suffix, which means that it is a temp file. Right-click this file, copy it and paste it in a different location. Rename the file with the .DOC or .DOCX suffix.

  • Choose a location on your system to save the document and click the OK button.

  • Re-open the Word document on your computer.
  • You can find the Document Recovery tab at the left-hand side of the screen, tap it. Choose the document you wish to recover.
  • Select & double-click on the selected document and click the Save button.
  • You can also use a third-party data recovery software to recover the unsaved document on your Windows 10 system.
  • Download the DIskInternals Word Recovery from its official site.
  • Install the DiskInternals Word Recovery software on your system by double-clicking the downloaded .exe file.
  • Click the Next button on the DiskInternal Word Recovery Welcome screen.
  • Choose the location that contains the unsaved document and click the Scan button.
  • Wait for the DiskInternals Word Recovery software to finish the scanning process.
  • After that, select the files that you wish to restore, preview it, and click the Save button.

Recover Word Document Saved Over

To recover the document that you saved in the Word Document application, follow the instructions given below.

  • Launch the Word Document application on your system.
  • Click the File menu followed by the Open option.
  • Choose the All Files option from the Files of Type drop-down menu.
  • Look for .wbt extension document in the All Files section.
  • Click the Recover or Save button.

  • Install the FoneDog Toolkit on your computer system.
  • Once the FoneDog Toolkit application is installed on your computer, launch it and begin the recovery process.

  • Once your Android device is connected to the computer, choose your hand-held device version type from the list.
