  • If you are logged in to your laptop, make a backup of your important files to an external storage device.
  • Once you are ready to install the hard disk drive, disconnect your storage device and turn off your laptop. 
  • Unplug the power adapter connected to your laptop (if any) and flip the laptop to remove the battery.
  • Once you have removed the laptop's battery, open the cover of the hard drive bay.
  • Slide-out the drive and unscrew it to remove the existing drive carrier.
  • Unpack the new WD 1TB internal hard disk drive and align it with holes in the drive carrier
  • Attach the screws and slide the new drive into the empty drive bay.
  • Close the hard drive bay cover and reinstall the battery.
  • Connect the power adapter to your laptop and turn it on to install the operating system.
  • Insert the bootable operating system disk and follow the prompts.
  • Next, install your software from the original disk and copy the backed-up files to the laptop.
  • If your laptop does not recognize your internal hard disk, open the Disk Management window by launching the Run dialog box first and then typing 'diskmgmt.msc' in the text field.
  • Choose your disk drive marked as Unallocated and run the New Simple Volume Wizard.
  • Assign a drive letter for your disk drive and finish the process with the help of the on-screen prompts.
  • Finally, check if you could access the WD disk drive. If you can access it, try moving your system data to the connected disk drive.
