WD External Hard Drive For Your Mac

If you want to connect your WD external hard drive to Mac and Windows computers, you have to format the external drive with the FAT32 file system. In Windows, you can format up to 1TB drive through Command Prompt. There are various types of WD external hard drives.   • First, plug in your Western Digital hard drive to your Mac computer.
  • Now, double-click on the drive icon and select the Applications tab on the left panel.
  • Navigate to Utilities on the second pane. Now, double-click on the Disk Utility option from the third pane.
  • Choose your drive from the left pane of the Disk Utility window. You can see two drives that are listed on the pane.
  • Select the one which is located farthest to the left. Make sure that it reads WD in the drive label.
  • Click on the Options button. When the pop-up dialog box appears, select Master Boot Record. Select OK.
  • Now, select the drop-down menu under Volume Scheme and choose 1 Partition.
  • Choose the MS-DOS option from the drop-down menu. Now, click on the Apply button.
  • When the confirmation window appears, click Partition.
  • Wait until the drive completes the formatting process. Once formatting is finished, the progress bar will disappear.
  • You have now successfully set up the WD external hard drive for Mac.
  • To get some extra space, you can send your photos and videos to the drive. You can remove them from your Mac device to free up space.
