WD Internal Hard Drive Not Recognizing

WD internal hard drives are reliable and also available in various storage capacities. Sometimes WD internal hard drive users may experience problems while using it on Windows computers,and there could be several reasons for the issue. Solution 1: Initialize WD Hard Drive In Disk Management

  • On your Windows computer, ensure that you have correctly mounted the WD internal hard drive.
  • Log in to the user account with administrator rights and right-click the My Computer shortcut icon.
  • Select Manage from the pop-up menu and click the Disk Management tab from the left-side panel.
  • Alternatively, open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows + R shortcut keys and type ‘diskmgmt’ in the text box. Press Enter or click OK in the Run dialog box to open Disk Management.
  • Locate the WD hard drive that you are going to initialize and give a right-click on it.
  • Select the Initialize Disk option from the pop-up menu and choose a partition system between MBR and GPT.
  • Right-click the disk and select the Create New Simple Volume option.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts and finish the process.
  • After completing the hard drive initialization, check if your hard drive has been recognized.

Solution 2: Assign New Drive Letter

  • On your computer, open Disk Management and right-click the hard drive partition.
  • Select the Change Driver Letter and Path option from the pop-up menu.
  • Click on Add to assign a new drive letter to the hard drive partition.
  • Alternatively, click on Change to change the drive letter.
  • Close the Disk Management window and check if you could access your WD hard drive from Windows File Explorer.
