Resetting WD My Book Password

WD My Book is an external hard drive manufactured by Western Digital (WD). You can easily reset WD My Book password using the WD Security software. To do so, follow the below-mentioned steps.

  • Ensure that you have installed the WD Security software on your Windows computer.
  • Open the default browser and navigate to the official WD site.
  • Click the Software & Downloads tab and navigate to the Software for Windows section.
  • Expand WD Security for Windows and click the Download button to start downloading the software.
  • Once downloaded, open the Downloads folder and install it on your computer.
  • Next, connect your WD My Book device to the computer using the USB cable that came with your drive.
  • Connect the drive to an electrical outlet using the supplied power cord.
  • Power it up and check if your computer has recognized it.
  • Click the Start menu available at the bottom-left corner of the screen and select All Programs.
  • Select Western Digital followed by WD Apps.
  • Under WD Apps, launch the WD Security software by giving a double-click on it.
  • Once launched, select your WD My Book device to open the Edit security settings dialog box.
  • If you wish to change the password, click the Change password radio button.
  • Enter the current password of your My Book device in the Current Password field.
  • Create a new password for your WD My Book device in the New Password field. If you forgot your old password you can reset WD My Book password later as follows.
  • Re-enter your new password in the Verify Password field.
  • To log in to your account automatically, check the Enable auto unlock for this computer checkbox.
Reset WD My Book Password
  • Click the Update Security Settings button to save and apply the configured settings.
  • If you wish to remove the password, click the Remove password radio button in the Edit security settings dialog box.
  • Enter your current password in the Password field and click the Update Security Settings button.
  • If you have forgotten your WD My Book password, you can reset the configured settings to the factory defaults.
  • To do so, turn off your WD My Book device and unplug the USB cable.
  • Locate the Reset button on the My Book device.
  • Press and hold it for at least 10 seconds to reset the device to factory defaults.
  • Once reset, you can log in to the WD My Book (World Edition) device using the default username ‘admin’ and default password ‘123456’ on your computer. If you need remote assistance to reset WD My Book password, click the call button.
