Western Digital My Cloud Home is a cloud-based data storage device that can be accessed using the WD My Cloud Home Desktop app or the My Cloud Home Mobile app. You should have a My Cloud admin account to access the data stored on your WD My Cloud device.

There are chances for WD My Cloud Home wants to change the PC setting issues to occur while accessing or transferring the data on the My Cloud Home device. Recently, most of the WD My Cloud users have encountered a common issue, which is addressed here.


When a user connects the WD My Cloud Home device to his/her PC, the WD Discovery app installed on the PC changes the PC settings with Admin rights. 


The issue mentioned above might be quite strange. But, there is a chance for this issue to occur if you are trying to access the WD My Cloud Home device without using an admin account.


Step 1: Sign in to your WD My Cloud admin account 

  • If you haven’t signed into your WD My Cloud admin account, then sign in first.
  • After signing into your admin account, check if the same issue persists. 
  • If not, the issue is resolved.

Step 2: Add a User

You can create and add a new user account for your children or friends. To do so, follow the below instructions.

  • Using the My Cloud Home mobile app or web app, access your WD My Cloud Home device.
  • Click the Menu icon.
  • Select Settings > Add User. 
  • In the given field, enter the email address of the user.
  • Click the Send Invites or Invite button. Perform the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
  • Once the user account has been added, sign into the WD My Cloud Home device using the newly added account credential.
