Fix WD My Passport Problems

Western Digital (WD) offers many external devices like My Passport, My Passport Ultra, WD Elements, etc. Sometimes you are facing WD My Passport issues that your device might prompt an error, fail to connect, or go undetected. When you end up with these issues, you have to resolve them to access your My Passport device. If your WD My Passport drive in not detected on your computer, follow the troubleshooting methods given below.

Method 1: Running The Windows Troubleshooter

  • First, verify whether you have properly connected the My Passport hard drive to the Windows computer.
  • If necessary, change the existing USB cable with a new USB cable.
  • On your computer, open the Settings window by pressing the Windows + I shortcut keys.
  • Next, click on Update and Security in the Settings window.
  • Click the Troubleshoot tab from the left-side panel and select the Hardware and Devices option in the Find and fix other problems section.
  • Click the Run the troubleshooter button and wait until the process is completed.
  • The Hardware and Devices troubleshooter will detect and resolve the Wd My Passport issues with the connected hard drive.

Method 2: Changing The WD Drive Letter And Path

  • Ensure that you have connected the WD My Passport drive to the computer using a standard USB cable.
  • On your computer, press the Windows + R shortcut keys to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type ‘diskmgmt.msc’ in the text field and click the OK button to open the Disk Management window.
  • Now, give a right-click on the WD drive and select the Change Drive Letter and Paths option.
  • Next, click the Add button and select your desired drive letter from the drop-down menu next to Assign the following drive letter.
  • Click OK and restart your computer if the problem has been resolved.
  • If the WD My Passport issues persists, update the USB controller.
