  • Navigate to the Support page and select the Downloads tab.
  • Go to the Software and Firmware section select the WD SmartWare software.
  • Click on the Download option under WD SmartWare and save it to your WD external hard drive.
  • Now, open the downloaded file and open the WD SmartWare Software Updater.
  • Continue with the on-screen instructions to install the WD SmartWare software.
  • Once the update is complete, restart your computer to fix the issue.
